Coronavirus (COVID-19) in Salem, Massachusetts

Some businesses are operating with new policies, hours, and guidelines. We strongly recommend planning your visit to Salem by confirming hours and availability with individual businesses, buying tickets, and making reservations in advance wherever possible.

Public Health Advisory, May 17, 2022

Due to an increase in COVID-19 cases in the City of Salem, the Salem Board of Health is advising masking in public indoor spaces to help slow the spread of COVID-19. This is not a requirement, but we recommend bringing a mask with you to Salem, as businesses are within their rights to require masks be worn in their establishments.

There is not a vaccine mandate or indoor mask mandate

On February 8 the Salem Board of Health rescinded the City’s indoor mask mandate and requirement to show proof of COVID-19 vaccine to enter several types of businesses. For additional information, visit the News page of salem.com.

Please note: All Salem businesses and public spaces are free and within their rights to establish their own voluntary safety requirements for entry by customers, staff, and the public. Those entering any establishment with its own rules and standards for service should continue to follow those rules and respect the business owners, their employees, and fellow customers.

Free PCR Testing at Riley Plaza

Curative, the company that operated the City of Salem’s free rapid COVID testing site last October, will continue to serve the Salem community with a walk-up COVID testing site located in Riley Plaza. The Curative testing trailer offers no out of pocket cost covid testing.  Please bring your health insurance card and ID.  No insurance, no problem. Testing at this site is self-collected PCR testing, with results returned within 24-48 hours. The Curative team of local employees look forward to serving the Salem community with easily accessible testing to enhance the testing already available in Salem.  Visit www.curative.com to register in advance. Walk-ins are welcome, too.

Capacity Restrictions

There are currently no restrictions on capacity in Massachusetts, unless set by individual businesses. Confirm capacity limits and reservation requirements with individual businesses ahead of your visit.

Travel Restrictions

There are currently no travel restrictions for visitors entering Massachusetts, however the state recommends that people follow CDC guidelines for travel.
