Charter Street Cemetery/Old Burying Point

Founded in 1637, Charter Street Cemetery is Salem’s oldest surviving cemetery and one of the city’s most historic sites. Located near downtown Salem, the cemetery serves as the final resting place of several notable residents connected to Salem’s colonial and maritime history.

The Charter Street Cemetery Welcome Center is located in the adjacent 17th-century Pickman House, where visitors can learn more about the cemetery’s history, notable burials, and Salem’s colonial past. The cemetery is a popular stop for those exploring Salem’s historic downtown, Witch Trials history, and early New England architecture.
