Located in the heart of downtown Salem, Salem Common is an 8-acre historic public park that has served as a gathering place since the 17th century. Once used for community events, militia drills, and public grazing, today the Common is a scenic green space popular with both locals and visitors.
Lined with trees, walking paths, benches, seasonal landscaping, and the iconic Salem Common Bandstand, Salem Common is a great place to relax, enjoy a picnic, take photos, or pause between exploring Salem’s historic sites, museums, and downtown attractions. The park is especially popular in warmer months and during the fall foliage season.
Salem Common is also within walking distance of several of the city’s notable landmarks, including the Salem Witch Museum and the Hawthorne Hotel.
